  • I walked in to my office tonight to find my 6 year old filming videos on my phone for her 'channel' (she does not have a channel of any sort FYI). Despite being equal parts amused and horrified at how the small amount of supervised YouTube is influencing her, it got me thinking about random things I did as a child/teen that ironically made sense given my chosen career path. (Swipe for a trip down a 90s kid's memory lane). Anyone remember these random characters? I used to cut them out and create stories for them- who they were, what they liked, who they dated. I also made bulging scrapbooks consisting of cut-out photos from Horse Deals magazines where I'd give each horse a name and pedigree, and group them into stables and write stories about them. The hours spent every January painstakingly decorating my school books (remember the kraft paper and contact? I'm totally team reusable covers now! #millennialmum) I made family magazines and newsletters, loved scrapbooking and got an award in Grade 1 for the best colour-in-er of the year (greatest achievement yet). All this to say- I was storytelling and designing from the very beginning, and it is not surprising that this is what I spend my days doing now. 💖 Did you do random things as a kid that totally make sense in your chosen career now?

I walked in to my office tonight to find my 6 year old filming videos on my phone for her 'channel' (she does not have a channel of any sort FYI). Despite being equal parts amused and horrified at how the small amount of supervised YouTube is influencing her, it got me thinking about random things I did as a child/teen that ironically made sense given my chosen career path. (Swipe for a trip down a 90s kid's memory lane). Anyone remember these random characters? I used to cut them out and create stories for them- who they were, what they liked, who they dated. I also made bulging scrapbooks consisting of cut-out photos from Horse Deals magazines where I'd give each horse a name and pedigree, and group them into stables and write stories about them. The hours spent every January painstakingly decorating my school books (remember the kraft paper and contact? I'm totally team reusable covers now! #millennialmum) I made family magazines and newsletters, loved scrapbooking and got an award in Grade 1 for the best colour-in-er of the year (greatest achievement yet). You never know when a fellow business owner is struggling with a certain aspect of their business that one of these tools may help, so today I am sharing with you my top 5 BRILLIANT biz tools, so you can love them too! 1. Canva - I use Canva to quickly whip up my own graphics, plus set up my client's brand kits for them to make their own graphics. (Free & Paid Options, I use the paid) 2. Moxie - This is my business hub and CRM- send invoices, track tasks, and even have leads come in from your website, there are so many capabilities with this program! 3. Klaviyo is my email & SMS marketing program- so easy to use and perfect for service providers. (Free for less than 500 sends a month) 4. LastPass - sick of remembering login details? LastPass is Free and securely stores all of your passwords and payment details, so no more lost passwords (or using the same unsecure password for everything!) (Free program has all you need!) 5. Eliza Stock - Amazing stock images you can use across your whole business! Want to chat more about these tools? You know what warms my little graphic designer heart? When I see businesses with their shiny new brands use them consistently across their social feeds 🥰 A perfect example are the legends at @roofspacerenovators ✅ Brand Colours ✅ Brand Fonts ✅ Patterns + Fonts ✅ Imagery that nails their vibe ✅ CONSISTENCY!!
